Motorcyclist dead after crash in Toronto’s east end

Toronto police provide an update on the fatal two-vehicle collision that happened in the area of Birchmount Rd. and McNicoll Ave.

A 29-year-old motorcyclist is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Scarborough Tuesday morning, Toronto police say.

Police say officers were called to the crash shortly after 7:30 a.m. in the area of Birchmount Road and McNicoll Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say a 79-year-old woman was driving a minivan along Birchmount Road, approaching Fundy Bay Boulevard.

The motorcyclist was travelling south on Birchmount Road when the driver of the minivan made a left turn and the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the minivan remained at the scene. The cause of the crash is unknown.

Birchmount Road was previously closed due to the crash but has since reopened.
