Man dead after workplace incident at Hamilton waste transfer facility

A 48-year-old man is dead following a workplace incident in Hamilton on Monday afternoon, police say.

Emergency crews were called to a waste transfer facility on Strathearne Avenue at around 4:20 p.m. for reports that a worker had been struck by heavy equipment.

A 48-year-old man was found at the scene suffering from critical injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment but later died.

“The incident involved a commercial vehicle and heavy equipment operating at the site,” police said in a news release.

“The Ministry of Labour has been notified and is assisting with the investigation. The Office of the Chief Coroner is also involved and has ordered a post-mortem examination.”

Police said the investigation is “ongoing,” adding that no further details will be released at this time.
