Keep the rain jackets and umbrellas close at hand this week as a lengthy stretch of cool, wet weather arrives in Toronto.

“Cool polar air wants to invade and exert its dominance,” CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said this week.

“That will have us reaching for the thicker spring jackets for most of the next seven to 10 days.”

Environment Canada is calling for rain and a high of just 10 C on Wednesday, about seven degrees cooler than normal for this time of year.

The national weather agency has issued an identical forecast for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, which will see a high of 10 C with some sunshine and a chance of rain.

Showers are also possible on Sunday and Monday, which will see daytime highs of 9 C and 12 C on each day respectively.

A break in the wet weather isn’t likely to come until Tuesday.

“A cooler wind flow and a change in pattern and air mass will keep us below normal for the foreseeable future,” Coulter said.

“It will also be an unsettled period with the risk of showers presenting most days. Warmer air should return for the second week of May.”
