Veteran city councillor Gord Perks will not run in Toronto’s fall election.
Perks’ executive assistant confirmed the news to CP24 on Thursday, a day before candidate nominations open up for the October 26 vote.
The 62-year-old environmentalist was elected to represent Parkdale-High Park in 2006. He’s been re-elected four times since then, including when electoral boundaries were redrawn in 2018 and his Ward 14 absorbed Ward 13.
Perks currently serves on the city’s budget, executive, and planning and housing committees.
Prior to working in politics, Perks worked with Greenpeace Canada, Pollution Probe, the Better Transportation Coalition, and the Toronto Environmental Alliance from 1987 to 2005.
