A man is dead following a shooting in midtown Toronto on Thursday afternoon and a suspect is in custody, police say.

It happened at around 12:25 p.m. in the area of Marlee Avenue and Glengrove Avenue West, which is close to Lawrence Avenue and Allen Road, following reports of gunshots in the area.

The incident appears to have occurred near the baseball diamond at Wenderley Park.

Toronto Paramedics responded to the shooting and provided life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

When police arrived, they arrested one suspect, a man in his 60s nearby.

The shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is currently no threat to public safety, according to police.

“We are trying to piece together what happened,” said Duty Inspector Peter Wallace, who spoke to reporters at the scene. “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family.”

Police say the investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone in the area between 12 and 12:30 p.m. to come forward with information or video.
