A Mississauga man has been charged in connection with allegations of sexual assault at a Niagara Region daycare and police say that there could be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Police say that they began an investigation in August, 2024 after receiving information about alleged sexual assault at a former daycare on Heron Street in Welland.

Police say that earlier this week the results from a DNA warrant allowed investigators to identify a suspect in the case.

Juan Carlos Castillo Fuenmayor, 61, was arrested on Thursday and charged with seven offences, including sexual assault and sexual interference.

Castillo Fuenmayor was expected to appear in court on Friday.

“Detectives believe there could be further victims and are requesting anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service,” a news release notes.
