Toronto police have charged a 35-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman he met on the Facebook dating app.
Police said the man and the 29-year-old woman met up on April 1 in the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Homestead Road.
During the meeting, he allegedly sexually assaulted her and subsequently “engaged in a course of harassing conduct toward her.”
The man, identified as John Haylock of Whitby, was arrested earlier this week. He has been charged with sexual assault and two counts of criminal harassment.
“Investigators believe the accused utilized various digital platforms and social media applications to contact individuals,” police said in a news release.
The apps include Facebook, Facebook Dating, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and several other dating platforms.
Police said they are concerned there may be other victims and are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
