Driver dead after crashing into tree in Scarborough

Police probe a fatal crash in Scarborough after a car hit a tree near Goldhawk Trail and McCowan Road. The 20-year-old driver later died in hospital.

A driver is dead after he crashed into a tree in Scarborough on Friday night.

Toronto police said they got a call shortly after 7:30 p.m. for a single-vehicle collision in the area of Goldhawk Trail and Hutchcroft Avenue, west of McCowan Road.

A 42-year-old man driving a 2011 Honda on Goldhawk Trail, for unknown reasons, left the road and struck a tree, police said.

The driver was initially transported to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries but he was later pronounced dead.

The circumstances that led to the crash are unknown.
