Highway 401 westbound express lanes closed in Scarborough after fiery crash

A clean-up is underway after a tractor-trailer caught fire on Highway 401. Emergency crews were called to the scene at 4 a.m.

A single-vehicle crash that sparked a fire in Scarborough this morning has shut down part of Highway 401, as cleanup efforts continue to get underway.

The crash, involving a transport truck was initially announced just before 4:30 a.m.

In a post to social media, Ontario Provincial Police revealed westbound express lanes were closed at Morningside Avenue, while the collector lanes were shut down at McCowan Road.

Eastbound express lanes were also blocked at Brimley Road while crews worked to extinguish the fire, though crews confirmed shortly after 5 a.m. that all lanes had reopened.

Meanwhile, westbound express lanes from Morningside Avenue remain closed.

There is no word on any injuries.

Drivers heading out for the morning commute are advised to use alternate routes and expect delays in the area.
