Impaired driver charged after vehicle hits pole, catches fire in Scarborough

A man is facing impaired driving charges after slamming into a hydro pole overnight in the city’s east end.

Toronto police are investigating a collision in the city’s east end after they say an impaired driver slammed their vehicle into a pole, early Sunday morning.

Officials say the crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. on Victoria Park near Curlew Drive where they found a lone occupant in the vehicle at the time, before it caught fire.

No injuries were reported, but officers note the driver was taken into custody and charged with impaired driving.

In an email to CP24, officials did not provide a name of the accused.

The scene has since been cleared, though crews were still awaiting city workers to attend to the damaged pole.
