Police say overnight warehouse fires in Toronto, Mississauga ‘could be related’

Published:

Police are investigating two separate overnight fires at warehouses in North York and Mississauga.

Both Toronto and Peel regional police are investigating a possible link between two overnight warehouse fires in the GTA, with one particular incident already deemed as “suspicious.”

Emergency crews were first called at about 12:51 a.m. Sunday to an unoccupied business near South Sheridan Way and Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga.

In that incident, peel police said the building was on fire when officers and firefighters arrived, but noted no injuries were reported.

“We are investigating this as a suspicious fire in coordination with the fire department,” officials told CP24 in an email, adding that investigators from 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are working to determine the cause.

A short time later, at about 1:24 a.m., crews were also called to a warehouse fire near Steeles Avenue West and Norfinch Drive in Toronto’s North York region.

Toronto police said the warehouse was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived and also confirmed to CP24 that no injuries were reported.

Police said the cause has not yet been confirmed and the fire remains under investigation.

“TPS is aware of the incident in Mississauga and will consider the face that the fires could be related, if this fire is deemed to be an Arson,” officials wrote.
