A man accused of fatally shooting another man in a park in North York in broad daylight late last week was a former police officer in Collingwood.

A media officer from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) tells CP24 that the “person in question,” identified by Toronto police on Sunday as 67-year-old Michaelo Markicevic, of Toronto, “resigned from Collingwood Police Service in 1995/1996.”

Spokesperson Ashley Taylor said that individual did not transfer over to the force when Collingwood Police Service amalgamated with the OPP in 1997/1998.

“We have no other information at this time,” she said.

Markicevic is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the April 30 death of 47-year-old Toronto resident Daniel Stopnicki.
