It might be best to plan your travel routes ahead of time this weekend with a closure on the Don Valley Parkway for maintenance and the suspension of subway service along a portion of Line 2.

The Don Valley Parkway will be closed both ways from Highway 401 to the Jarvis Street ramp on the Gardiner Expressway all weekend long as the city plans to carry out infrastructure maintenance and prep the roadways for the FIFA World Cup.

The closure begins on Friday at 11 p.m. and will not reopen until 5 a.m. on Monday.

The planned shutdown also coincides with a shutdown on a portion of Line 2 as well as service changes across GO Transit’s train network.

FIFA World Cup preparations underway

According to city officials, the work on the Don Valley Expressway is part of an effort to prepare the city’s roadways for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and maintain expressway infrastructure.

“The closures allow multiple city divisions and partners to work safely and at the same time, to ensure the expressways remain safe, clean and in good working condition,” city officials said in a news release.

“Drivers should plan their travel in advance and consider alternate routes, leave extra time for their journey and take public transit if possible.”

TTC and GO Transit changes planned for this weekend

Those taking the TTC will also see disruptions and schedule adjustments starting this weekend.

The TTC has announced that Line 2 Bloor-Danforth will be closed between Kipling and Jane stations on Saturday for planned signal work. Regular service is expected to resume Sunday at 8 a.m.

Those taking the GO Train could be in for some relief, as officials have announced increased service Saturday for soccer fans heading to BMO Stadium as Toronto FC take on Inter Miami CF.

Six additional GO Train trips along Lakeshore West will be added on game day.
