Temperature could drop below the freezing mark in parts of the GTA tonight

CP24 meteorologist Bill Coulter provides an update on weather conditions in Toronto and parts of the GTA.

A frost advisory has been issued for a wide swath of the GTHA ahead of overnight temperatures that could drop to “near or below the freezing mark.”

Environment Canada has issued the advisory for most areas surrounding Toronto, including Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and Durham Region.

The advisory is not currently in effect for the City of Toronto itself.

“Patchy frost is expected overnight and Friday morning as temperatures drop to near or below the freezing mark,” the advisory states. “Damage to plants, trees, and crops is possible. Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas.”

Environment Canada says that the temperature in Toronto is expected to plunge from a high of 12 C on Thursday afternoon to an overnight low of 2 C.

The cold, however, will be short-lived.

The weather agency is forecasting a daytime high of 15 C on Friday and Saturday.

That is still below the typical high seen at this time of year of 17 C but is much closer to seasonal norms.
