Police say a suspect is now in custody following two sexual assaults in Toronto over a 24-hour period.
Police allege that a group of women were walking on a sidewalk in the area of Dundas Street East and De Grassi Street at around 8:10 p.m. on May 9 when a suspect approached the group “in close proximity.”
“The suspect took hold of the victim’s forearm with one hand and made verbal sexual advances,” police said in a news release. “The suspect then sexually assaulted her and fled the scene.”
According to police, the second assault happened at around 5:30 p.m. on May 10 in the area of Dundas Street West and Bloor Street West.
Police say a woman was in a commercial building when a male suspect followed her into an office space.
“The suspect approached the victim from behind and sexually assaulted her,” police said.
He then fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.
Investigators said they do not believe the suspect and victims knew each other prior to the assaults.
The victims did not sustain any serious physical injuries, police added.
Police said that on Tuesday, May 12, the suspect, identified as Samuel Opoku, 30, of no fixed address, was arrested in connection with the incidents.
He faces two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent exposure.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7474, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com," police said.
