Etobicoke apartment stabbing victim identified, suspect charged with murder

Police investigating after a man was found dead in an Etobicoke apartment Sunday May 17, 2026 (CP24 photo).

Toronto police have identified the victim who was fatally stabbed in an Etobicoke apartment on Sunday morning.

Police said officers located 33-year-old Abdi Wali Aden with stab wounds to his chest and neck shortly after midnight in the area of Kipling Avenue and Albion Road.

Aden was rushed to a nearby trauma centre, where he was pronounced dead. He is the city’s ninth homicide victim of the year.

Meanwhile, the suspect who was arrested near the scene has since been charged with second-degree murder. He has been identified as 32-year-old Gordon Gauvin.

During a news conference on Sunday morning, Duty Insp. Peter Wallace said the victim and suspect may have been friends.

Wallace added that the incident may have occurred inside an apartment unit, likely as the result of “a dispute.”

Police said the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
