Toronto police say one person is dead and three others are seriously injured following a crash in Scarborough Thursday night.
Emergency crews were called to Sheppard Avenue and Vandorf Street, just north of Highway 401, at approximately 10 p.m. for a two-vehicle collision.
Police said a Nissan Altima was travelling north on Sheppard Avenue East when it crossed the centre line and struck a Volkswagen Jetta head on.
A 42-year-old passenger of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The 38-year-old driver was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.
The 32-year-old driver of the Volkswagen and their 49-year-old passenger both sustained serious injuries.
Police initially said that one person was arrested at the scene for suspected impaired driving. In an update, they said that their investigation has revealed that this person was not the driver of either vehicle.
“No criminal charges have been laid against either driver,” a police spokesperson said in an email.
The deceased has not been identified.
Sheppard Avenue East remains closed for an investigation.
