A 39-year-old woman has died after police say she was struck by a truck in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Gerrard and Parliament streets at around 12:30 p.m.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Duty Insp. Jon Rose said emergency services arrived “within minutes” and located the woman suffering from severe trauma.
“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services personnel, the female pedestrian, age 39, I can sadly say, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Rose said.

Gerrard Street remains closed between Berkeley and Sumach streets as investigators continue to examine the scene.
“A tragic event like this does take a long time to complete the investigation, and as I said earlier, we will be asking for your patience as we have this intersection closed for the next few hours,” Rose said.
Police noted that they will have support services available for the community.
“We also understand that an event like this is very sad and very traumatic for the community. If anybody wishes to speak to anybody about it, our victim services unit is on scene and will be made available,” the officer said.
No further details have been released.
