The city of Toronto is under a special weather statement from Environment Canada, as experts warn the region could see up to 50 millimetres of rain throughout the day.

About 10 to 20 millimetres of rain is expected to start in the morning with temperatures hovering around 13 C.

The national weather agency says rainfall amounts between 30 and 50 millimetres are possible as a “low-pressure system” moves across parts of southern Ontario north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Officials say rain is expected to transition to drizzle from the west to the east.

At this time, there is no “rainfall warning” issued. According to the weather agency, those alerts are only given “6 to 24 hours in advance,” and served as an “act now to protect yourself from severe weather.”

Heavier amounts of rainfall is expected to carry into the night before tapering off Sunday around noon where the daytime high will be 21 C.
