Toronto police resume search for missing boater in Lake Ontario

Published:

The search continues for a man who went missing after a boat overturned on Lake Ontario on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were first called to Cherry Beach, near Unwin Avenue and Cherry Street, at around 1:45 p.m. after a small, inflatable boat had reportedly capsized.

A man in his 40s was rescued by the Toronto Police Service’s marine unit and his injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

A dog was also pulled from the water, police said.

Officers were unable to locate a second man who had gone missing after the boat capsized.

A search was conducted throughout the afternoon and evening but was called off on Wednesday night.

Toronto police say the search will resume on Thursday morning.

Marine unit divers will be out this morning doing an underwater recovery search, a spokesperson for Toronto police told CP24.
