A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Toronto’s west end early Sunday morning.
Toronto police say officers responded to the area of Old Park Road and Eglinton Avenue West at approximately 1:19 a.m.
Emergency crews arrived and performed life-saving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim has not yet been identified.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. Police did not however provide a name or any details on possible charges.
It also remains unclear as to whether speed is believed to be a factor.
“This is an incredibly heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time,” Duty Insp. Errol Watson told reporters at the scene.

Watson added that investigators are working to determine exactly what happened.
“Our Traffic Services Unit is working to gather all the facts, and we appreciate your patience as we continue our investigation,” he said.
Road closures in areas will remain in effect as officers continue to examine the scene.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision, or who may have dash camera footage, to contact investigators.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation.
