Police say charges are pending after a driver reportedly involved in street racing on Highway 401 struck a person standing outside their vehicle on the shoulder of the highway in Mississauga early Sunday morning.
It happened at around midnight in the westbound express lanes of Highway 401 near Renforth Drive.
Police said vehicles were reportedly racing in the area and one of the drivers struck a person who had stopped on the shoulder.
The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Mississauga OPP.
The two left lanes of Highway 401 westbound, near Renforth Drive, remain closed as of 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, though all ramps have been reopened. Police say to expect delays in the area.
