Toronto Fire Services (TFS) says its crews have responded to 41 per cent more calls than usual in the city over the last 24 hours.
The service reported on Sunday afternoon that firefighters have attended 622 emergency incidents across the city in that time frame.
“Behind every call, our Call Takers and Dispatchers worked continuously to receive, prioritize, and support crews during this busy period,” TFS said in a post on X.
Fire Chief Jim Jessop chimed in on social media, saying he “want(s) to recognize the dedication shown by all Toronto Fire Services staff as they worked together to support the City of Toronto communities during this busy period.”
It is not known at this point exactly why there have been a spike in calls, nor what kind of calls are coming in.
