Canada Post is warning that those living close to the action for the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches in Toronto and Vancouver may see “minor service interruptions” with their mail delivery.
In a news release, the Crown corporation said the interruptions could coincide with weekday matches in both host cities.
“From June 11 to July 19 – during the FIFA Fan Festival™ and six match days in Toronto – minor service interruptions will likely occur in close proximity to the FIFA Fan Festival™ at Fort York and The Bentway, and for matches at Toronto Stadium at Exhibition Place,” Canada Post said in an advisory.
“All efforts will be made to deliver mail on the five weekdays with matches.”
In Toronto, the delays are expected to impact those living in neighbourhoods with postal codes starting with M6K, M6J, and M5V.
“Any mail not delivered will be held securely at the Canada Post depot and prioritized for delivery the next business day,” the news release read.
Toronto post offices impacted by increased traffic and road closures in the area, including 390 Queens Quay West, 761 King Street West, 119 Ossington Avenue, and 1093 Queen Street West, may see temporary delays in mail processing and delivery on match days, Canada Post said.
Canada Post says it will remove the following street letter boxes until Wednesday, July 22:
• Enercare Centre at the Canadian National Exhibition
• Queen Elizabeth Building at the Canadian National Exhibition
• Niagara Street and Richmond Street West
• Niagara Street and Tecumseth Street
• King Street West and Niagara Street
• 740 King Street West
• 761 King Street West
• Dufferin Street and King Street West
• Dufferin Street and Liberty Street
• Jefferson Avenue and Liberty Street
• The Metro store at 100 Lynn Williams Street
“Customers can mail their items at the post office at 1093 Queen Street West,” the news release noted.
