Ontario Provincial Police say a warrant has been issued for teenager from Toronto following a reported shooting in Bancroft.
Police were called to the intersection of Bridge and Hasting streets in Bancroft at 5 p.m. Saturday on reports of gunshots. A suspect was seen cycling away before police arrived, the OPP said.
One person turned up in hospital later with a gunshot wound. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The OPP has issued a warrant for a 17-year-old from the Greater Toronto Area. He is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm with intent, discharging a firearm recklessly, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, mischief, and failure to comply with a sentence.
Bancroft is approximately 250 kilometres north of downtown Toronto.
Police believe this is an isolated incident with no broader risk to public safety.
Police did not release a name for the suspect. The teen’s identity would be protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
