A Mississauga man is facing several charges after police say the driver of a stolen vehicle rammed two Hamilton police cruisers, leaving the vehicles inoperable.

In a news release, police said officers were called to the area of Elodia Court in Hamilton early Sunday morning after a witness reported a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood.

A grey Honda, which was parked on the street with its lights off, was confirmed to be on file as stolen by Peel Regional police.

When officers tried to investigate, Hamilton police said the suspect rammed a cruiser and attempted to flee the scene. According to investigators, the car continued driving along Elodia Court and struck another police cruiser, causing enough damage to make both police vehicles inoperable.

The driver then got out of the car and fled on foot, but was arrested by officers a short distance away, investigators said in a news release.

Police said the suspect continued to resist after being taken into custody and refused to identify himself.

While searching the stolen vehicle, police said officers found a loaded Glock handgun on the front passenger seat.

Sammy Shaik, 28, of Mississauga is charged with:

  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm
  • Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle
  • Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – Stolen Auto

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asks that anyone with information to contact Detective Constable David Turnbull with the Division 3 Criminal Investigation Division.
