Residents living in roughly 150,000 homes across the GTA and Ontario might have to walk a few extra blocks in order to pick up their mail as Canada post continues its plan to transition away from home mail delivery service.

In a statement released Thursday, Canada Post announced that it will be ending door-to-door delivery service for approximately 158,000 homes in Ajax, Brampton, Hawkesbury, Kitchener, London, Mississauga, Ottawa, and Pickering. The affected changes will take place in 2027.

Door-to-door services will be impacted for the following postal codes in the GTA:

  • Ajax: L1S, L1T
  • Brampton: L6S, L6T, L6W, L6Y, L6V, L6X, L6Z, L7A
  • Pickering: L1V, L1W, L1X
  • Mississauga: L4T, L4V, L5M, L5N, L5S, L5T

In a statement, Canada Post said that converting homes from door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes “typically takes months,” and that Canada Post is “notifying residents of the upcoming change to their mail delivery, and will keep them, businesses, bargaining agents and employees informed every step of the way”.

In April, the Crown corporation announced that its door-delivery service for 18,000 homes in Etobicoke would wind down, beginning in late 2026.

Outside of Ontario, a total of 327,000 addresses across multiple provinces will also transition out of door-to-door delivery service.
