Woman wanted in connection with hate-motivated assault on streetcar

Toronto police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with what investigators describe as a hate-motivated assault on a streetcar near Kensington Market.

It happened March 27 shortly before noon in the area of Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue. According to police, the suspect assaulted the victim while on board a streetcar.

During the assault, the suspect allegedly directed anti-Black racial slurs at the victim, police said in a news release.

The suspect then reportedly fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as about 30 years old, standing between five-foot-10 and six feet tall, with dark, shoulder-length curly hair. At the time of the assault, the suspect was reportedly carrying a white bag.

Police are investigating the incident as a hate-motivated offence. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators.
