A 32-year-old Toronto man killed in the city’s latest murder has been identified as police continue working to locate those responsible for his death.
Late Sunday night, Toronto police shared a photo of Erik Safar. He is the city’s 14th homicide victim of 2026.
Toronto police say just after 6 a.m. today, they attended a call for unknown trouble in North York, near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue.
In an update to reporters late Sunday morning, Supt. Jack Gurr said an argument broke out in the area before escalating into a fight involving multiple people.

When officers arrived, they located a man who had been injured and struck by a vehicle.
“Life-saving measures were performed, however the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a follow-up news release.
A second person was also transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said earlier today.

An unknown number of suspects fled the scene in a light-coloured vehicle. That vehicle and its occupants remain outstanding.
Police haven’t released any suspect descriptions and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
They said they believe the incident is isolated at this time and say there is no broader risk to public safety.

‘Find a lawyer and turn yourselves in’
Speaking at the scene, investigators also issued a direct message to those responsible.
“For the people responsible for this murder, find a lawyer and turn yourselves in,” they said.
“Our investigators are actively tracking information, so do yourself that favor, find a lawyer and turn yourself in.”
Authorities said residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as they continue to gather evidence.
Local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, are being asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
