Three people, including a child, were injured after a vehicle crashed into a group of pedestrians in the area of Bathurst Street and Avenal Drive.

A three-year-old child is in the hospital after a vehicle crashed into a group of pedestrians on Wednesday afternoon, Toronto police say.

Officers were called to the area of Bathurst Street and Avenal Drive, located south of Ava Road, just before 4 p.m. for reports of a vehicle hitting a hydro pole.

Paramedics tell CP24 three pedestrians were struck by the vehicle, including the toddler who was taken to a local trauma centre in serious condition.

They add that one adult and a third patient sustained minor injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear at this time.

Roads that were previously closed in the area have since reopened.

In a statement to X, Ward 12 City Coun Josh Matlow wished those injured in the collision a speedy recovery and said his office reached out to Toronto police to offer any support they need during the investigation.

“This is horrible. We’ve reached out to Toronto Police 13 Division to offer our support as they pursue the investigation. We can only be grateful that there were no fatalities.”

“On behalf of our community, I wish those who were hit by this driver a speedy recovery- including the toddler who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.”
