A teenager is injured after being struck by a vehicle in Etobicoke on Thursday morning, Toronto police say.

It happened in the area of Finch Avenue West and Martin Grove Road, at around 11:15 a.m.

Police say they responded to the area for reports of a pedestrian struck.

Traffic services tell CP24’s Beatrice Vaisman that the incident happened in front of Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School.

An approximately 15-year-old student was crossing outside of the crosswalk between stopped cars, police say, and had entered the turn lane, which had an advanced light. They add that she got struck by the vehicle that was lawfully in the turn lane.

“She was unfortunately thrown into one of the vehicles that was stopped in traffic,” said Sgt. David Haines of Toronto police Traffic Services.

Paramedics tell CP24 they brought a teenage girl to the hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.

Toronto police say the driver of the vehicle “appears to have remained on scene.”

The circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear at this time.
