A 48-year-old driver is facing charges after police say he struck three pedestrians, including a two-year-old boy, with his pickup truck in Toronto’s north end.

According to police, a man was driving a red Ford F250 pickup truck southbound on Bathurst Street, south of Eglinton Avenue, when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.

Police allege the driver hit a telephone pole and then struck the three pedestrians who were walking on the sidewalk.

Two of the pedestrians, including a two-year-old boy and a 32-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 30-year-old woman did not sustain any injuries that required medical treatment, police said.

The driver, police said, remained at the scene and was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He has since been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm or death.

The Richmond Hill resident is scheduled to appear in court next month.

“The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services,” police said in a news release issued Friday.

“Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.”
