A 25-year-old man from New Tecumseth, Ont. has been charged with murder after a woman was found shot in a downtown Toronto apartment building on Saturday and later died.
The incident happened near Jarvis Street and Dundas Street East.
Toronto police said they were called to that area at around 9:30 a.m. for report of a shooting.
There, officers located a female victim inside an apartment who had been shot.
“Life-saving measures were performed, and the female was transported to hospital by paramedics,” they said in a news release.
The victim was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Victim knew accused, police say
Investigators have now confirmed that they victim, who has been identified as 31-year-old Iman Khawane, of Toronto, and accused were known to each other.
Khawane is the city’s 16th homicide victim of the year.
Jaden Riley, 25, of New Tecumseth, has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The charge has not been tested in court.
He was scheduled to appear in bail court in Sunday morning.
