One dead after apartment fire near Victoria Park and Eglinton

Police investigating after one was killed following an overnight apartment fire in Scarborough on Sunday June 28, 2026 (CP24 photo).

One person is dead following an overnight apartment fire in Scarborough early Sunday morning.

Toronto police say officers along with firefighters responded to reports of a fire inside an apartment unit in the Victoria Park Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East area at around 2 a.m.

In an email to CP24, officials say emergency crews extinguished the blaze and located one person deceased inside the unit.

Another person was also transported to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. Their injuries at this time are believed to be minor.

The cause of the fire has not been provided by officials.

The investigation is ongoing.
