A Brampton man has been charged after a City of Toronto lifeguard was injured in a collision on the water near Scarborough Bluffs involving a jet ski on Thursday.

Toronto police say the lifeguard was patrolling a designated swim zone aboard a patrol vessel.

A jet ski then entered the swim zone and collided with the vessel, ejecting the lifeguard into the water, police say.

The lifeguard sustained minor injuries.

Police say the jet ski operator continued riding before he was directed to shore by another lifeguard.

The Marine Unit launched an investigation and on Friday, police announced that they arrested the operator, 20-year-old Tristan Latchman from Brampton.

He has been charged with dangerous operation of conveyance.
