Portugal fans hoping for one last glimpse of Cristiano Ronaldo are getting their wish, with the team confirming it will remain in Toronto through Saturday before flying to Dallas for the Round of 16.
Officials confirmed to TSN on Friday that they will hold one last training session at Centennial Park at 11 a.m. before departing for a flight later that afternoon.
The update follows a major 2-1 victory Thursday night against Croatia that punched their ticket to the next round.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Portugal’s Manager Roberto Martinez, praised Centennial Park for its excellent quality.
“The training session yesterday (Wednesday), the quality of the grass, was fantastic,” he said. “Everything around the beautiful facilities here, it reminds me of the old-fashioned Premier League grounds.”
Farewell to Toronto
After the emotional victory, Ronaldo and several teammates appeared on the balconies of the team’s downtown hotel, waving, applauding and celebrating with supporters gathered below before boarding the team bus.
Thursday’s match was the last game Toronto was scheduled to host for the 2026 World Cup.
From the quarterfinals onward, every remaining World Cup match will be played in the United States.
Portugal now shifts its focus to a blockbuster Round of 16 meeting with Spain in Dallas on Monday afternoon (3 p.m.), with Saturday’s training session marking the team’s final appearance in Toronto before continuing its pursuit of the World Cup title.
Fans at home can catch gametime action on LIVE across TSN and CTV. Some games are also available to stream on Crave.
