Toronto is getting some relief from the heat in the next few days.
The “prolonged heat event” that brought daytime temperatures above 30 C with humidex values in the 40s this week has finally ended.
Environment Canada lifted the heat warning on Saturday night.
The city reached a high of 26.7 C at 6 p.m. with a humidex of 34. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain near 20 C, providing little relief.
On Sunday, it will be a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 26 C and a humidex of 31.
Sunny conditions are expected to continue for the next few days with daytime temperatures below 30 C.
Environment Canada climatologist Dave Phillips told CP24 on Friday that Toronto will get a break from the heat for a few days but it will eventually return.
“We’re just seeing the beginning, the opening act to what is going to be a warm, humid summer,” Phillips said, noting that the “dog days of summer,” which is when Toronto normally gets its warmest temperatures, are coming up in about two weeks.
