A Toronto man is facing multiple sexual assault charges after police say he sexually assaulted five women while aboard public transit in the city’s downtown core earlier this week.
In a news release, police say officers responded to a sexual assault call on Thursday, July 2, at approximately 1 p.m. in downtown Toronto.
Investigators allege the accused sexually assaulted multiple adult female victims between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Police say all of the victims were strangers to the accused and none suffered physical injuries. It is also alleged the accused obstructed officers while they were performing their duties.
As a result, 30-year-old Ashraful Alam, of Toronto, has been charged with five counts of sexual assault and one count of obstruct peace officer.
He appeared in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Friday.
Police describe the accused as standing between five-foot-seven and five-foot-ten with a medium build, black shaggy hair and a black beard. At the time of the alleged incidents, they say he was wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt, beige shorts and dark Birkenstock-style sandals.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information, or anyone who believes they may have been victimized, to come forward.
