Two 16-year-olds charged after teen stabbed at Scarborough street festival

Two teenagers have been arrested following a stabbing at a street festival in Scarborough.

A 17-year-old boy has been stabbed during an altercation at the Scarborough Taste of Lawrence street festival Saturday night, which later led to the arrest of two 16-year-old boys.

In a news release, Toronto police say they were called to the area of Lawrence Avenue East and Birchmount Road at about 10:30 p.m. for reports of a stabbing.

Police allege the 17-year-old victim encountered the two accused teens and their group of friends at the festival.

Investigators say between 10 and 15 suspects approached the victim and became involved in a “physical altercation” where someone then took out a knife and stabbed the victim.

Police say the victim and one of the accused were both taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police also confirmed the accused and the victim are known to each other.

As a result of the scuffle and investigation, police charged two 16-year-old boys from Toronto who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

However both are charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and disobeying an order of the court.
