Durham Regional police say a man who allegedly broke into a scrap yard in Ajax stole more than $45,000 worth of metal from the business.
In a news release issued Monday, police said officers arrived at AIM Recycling, near Highway 401 and Harwood Avenue South, after an alarm went off at the business at approximately 9:15 p.m. on June 25.
They said a male suspect was observed breaking into the scrap metal yard. With the assistance of a K9 unit, tactical support, and drones, the suspect was located and taken into custody.
Upon further investigation, police said the suspect, identified as Haron Mohammad, 35, of Pickering, had committed multiple thefts at the business and allegedly stole more than $45,000 worth of metal.
Mohammad is charged with break-and-enter and theft over $5,000.
