A grass fire in the northbound lanes of Highway 400 that caused problems for drivers in north of Toronto this afternoon has cleared.
The fire broke out along the highway near Steeles Avenue. According to City of Vaughan fire officials, crews were called to the Highway 400 and Steeles area at approximately 1:05pm for a large grass fire.
Firefighters then battled the blaze near and around railways tracks until it was put out.
Smoke reduced visibility for drivers in both directions, as a result two northbound lanes were blocked along with the exit ramp to Steeles avenue, CP24 Traffic Specialist Adwoa Nsiah-Yeboah said on Wednesday afternoon.
Crews have since cleared the scene and roads are now clear.
