Toronto Fire and police officials investigate a one-alarm fire that displaced three families in residential units on Eglinton.

A suspicious fire at a restaurant in midtown has displaced three families who live in units within the same building, Toronto Fire told CP24.

The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. at a building in the area of Eglinton Avenue and Bathurst Street.

Fire crews arrived to find smoke visible from the rear of the building and located a fire in the restaurant as well as residential units within the structure.

“They did a quick knockdown of the fire in the basement,” Acting District Chief John Pagnotta told reporters on Wednesday morning.

The eight impacted residents self-evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The fire is believed to be suspicious and the cause, origin, and circumstances surrounding the blaze will be investigated.

“We will be doing a 12-hour fire watch and we will be holding the scene in the meantime,” Pagnotta said.
