Two people rescued from burning home near Kensington Market, one was hanging from balcony

The fire broke out shortly before 12:30 p.m. at a two-story house near Bathurst Street and Dundas Street West.

Two people were taken to hospital following a residential fire near Kensington Market on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire broke out shortly before 12:30 p.m. at a two-storey home in the Bathurst Street and Dundas Street West area.

When firefighters arrived, heavy black smoke was billowing from the home. Two people were rescued, including one who was hanging from a second-storey window, fire officials told CTV News.

Both occupants were taken to hospital by paramedics. One sustained serious injuries, while the other was treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews were able to contain the blaze. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, police said they do not believe the fire is suspicious.

Road closures in the area have since been lifted.
