A second arrest has been made in connection with the 2023 killing of a food delivery driver in Mississauga, Peel police say.
In a news release, officials say 24-year-old Gurvinder Nath, of Brampton, was working as a food delivery driver near Britannia Road and Creditview Road shortly after 2 a.m. on July 9, 2023, when he was allegedly attacked and robbed of his vehicle.
Nath was taken to a trauma centre, where he later died of his injuries. The suspects however, fled the scene in his vehicle.
“He was innocent, he was just delivering pizza (when) random people hit him on his head,” Balram Krishan, Nath’s cousin, told CTV News Toronto at the time.
Police previously arrested 23-year-old Jazaine Kerr, of Mississauga, on Feb. 15, 2024.
He was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.
Investigators later identified a second suspect and obtained a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of 26-year-old Devaunte Thompson, of Caledon.
Thompson was located and arrested in Toronto on July 16, earlier this month where he was charged with second-degree murder.
Police say Thompson was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.
