An elderly man has died following an incident with an elevator in Scarborough, according to Toronto Police.
It happened just after 7:15 p.m. at a home on Rhydwen Avenue.
Toronto Fire tells CP24 they responded to a call for possible entrapment or accident involving an elevator, adding that their elevator rescue team was required when they arrived on scene.
Toronto Fire said one person was rescued and turned over to paramedics for medical attention.
“We responded to an unknown trouble call indicating that an in-house elevator had come down on an elderly man,” Const. Viktor Sarudi said in a statement.
Police tell CP24 that when officers arrived at the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
“I can’t confirm the cause of death whether it was the elevator or other natural causes as it is too early in the investigation,” Sarudi said.
Police said they are not investigating the incident as suspicious.
