A man has died after being pinned down by a vehicle at a makeshift parking lot near Downsview Park during the VELD Music Festival.

In a release put out on Sunday, Toronto police said the 29-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

On Friday, Toronto paramedics were flagged down at about 11:30 p.m., after receiving reports that a pedestrian who had been lying in the grass was struck and pinned beneath a pickup truck in a parking area being used by festival attendees.

The 57-year-old driver remained at the scene.

The pedestrian was initially transported to a Toronto trauma centre in critical, life-threatening condition, but died on Sunday.

Police are asking any residents, businesses or drivers in the area who may have security or dashcam footage of the incident to contact investigators.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
