It’s been four days since a fatal shooting took place at a Midland apartment building along King Street and police are still looking for a suspect.
There are still no details or suspect description.
“All I heard was police racing down the hill,” says Scott Owens, a resident in the building. “It was wow. Holy cow, because I didn’t know, I didn’t know anything.”
A neighbour says he spring into action and raced over to help the victim.
“We heard a couple of gun shots go off,” says Douglas King, a neighbouring Midland resident. “So I jumped the fence, went over there and basically held his head until the cops came. I just held gauze on him, to hold pressure against to stop the wounds from bleeding,” says King.
Police say the shooting happened shortly after 8 on Friday evening. People who live in the building say the incident happened inside a second-story unit.
18-year-old Tryce James of Etobicoke later died in hospital. Police are not releasing much information, only to say the investigation continues. No word on why the victim was in the unit or who police are still looking for.
“It was a mix of disappointment and anger you know fear like everybody feels,” says Midland Mayor Bill Gordon.
Gordon says, like many of Midland’s residents, he’s eager for police to find the suspect.
“We still don’t know the identity of the assailant, and that causes a lot of apprehension in the community. And rightly so. We really need the police to find whoever is responsible for this shooting,” says Gordon.
The building is owned and operated by the County of Simcoe. The county tells CTV News its facilities have video surveillance and it’s been actively supporting the OPP in its investigation.
In a statement the county says the following:
“The safety and well being of residents and employees remain our highest priority and we continue to provide and offer support and assistance to our tenants and team.”
Police are remaining very tight-lipped on this investigation. All they will say at this point is they are treating this as an isolated incident and the investigation continues.
Anyone with any information on the shooting is asked to come forward.
