A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a transport truck while walking on Highway 404 in North York, Ontario Provincial Police say.
In a news release, officials say they responded to reports of a man walking on the highway near Finch Avenue at around 6 a.m. this morning.
Shortly afterward, police say the pedestrian was struck by a transport truck in the southbound lanes.
“Investigators believe the individual may have been struck by additional vehicles that did not remain on scene,” officials wrote.
“Officers are appealing to any drivers who may travelled through the area around the time of the collision to inspect their vehicles for damage and come forward if they believe they may have been involved.”
The pedestrian has not yet been identified.
All southbound lanes at Finch Avenue were previously closed as investigators examined the scene. However, those closures reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Police say foul play is not suspected.
The OPP Highway Safety Division’s Technical Collision Investigation team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Anyone who believes they may have been involved in the collision, witnessed it or has dashcam footage is asked to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
