Two people have been arrested after an alleged armed robbery that led to a police chase and attempted carjacking in downtown Toronto.
Toronto police say the incident happened at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday in the area of Bathurst and Richmond Street following reports of a person with a gun.
Police allege two suspects approached two victims and “robbed them at gunpoint” before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.
Officers then located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but police say the driver fled, resulting in a collision with the suspect vehicle, a TTC streetcar, and a police cruiser.
No injuries were reported in the collision.
The two suspects then allegedly fled the vehicle on foot while being pursued by officers.
“One of the accused attempted to carjack another vehicle but was unsuccessful,” police said in a news release, adding that the accused also pointed a loaded firearm at one of the officers.
Both suspects were arrested as police seized two loaded firearms.
Tajae-J’nye Samuel-Maragh, 23, of Toronto, faces numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of property obtained by crime.
Also, 29-year-old Kingslee Ivan Christie, of Whitby, is facing numerous charges, including two counts of robbery with a firearm, dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight while being pursued by police, pointing a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed or interacted with the accused, or who may have recorded the incident on their phone, to contact investigators.
