A suspect is in custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old man in Hamilton over the weekend.
According to police, 21-year-old Zenin Roussel was at King Street Billiard and Sports Bar on King Street West, near Paradise Road South, at around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 when he was involved in a verbal altercation with a suspect outside after the bar had closed.
Roussel and the suspect left the area separately in opposite directions.
By happenstance, the two ran into each other in the area of Main Street and Frid Street about 10 minutes later, police said. During that interaction, Roussel was stabbed.
The suspect and the group he was with fled the area immediately following the stabbing, according to police. The victim was found by a taxi driver in the area and was rushed to hospital but subsequently died of his injuries.
The suspect, identified by police as Kyle Dumont-McArthur, 26, was arrested on Tuesday and has been charged with second-degree murder.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday morning, Acting Det. Staff Sgt. Lisa Chambers said four people witnessed the stabbing and investigators have been able to speak to all of those people.
A weapon has not yet been recovered.
“Zenin was a beloved grandson, son, big brother, and friend… He touched many lives. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all who knew him as they try to navigate the profound grief and heartbreak of this tragic situation,” Chambers said.
“His mother now has to explain to his baby sister why he isn’t coming home.”
